ISOLATED HEROES- UK Designer Samantha McEwan

As you may already know, here at CAGECITY we put a huge focus on discovering and supporting up & coming fashion designers. We love what they do, and want to share what we love with you. 

Isolated Heroes is a label that is not only fun and creative, but inspirational too. Behind the brand is creative genius Samantha McEwen - A fashion graduate from Dundee. What we find inspirational is even though graduating was only in June 2011, Samantha has created a label that is innovative, unique, eye-catching but still wearable. Samantha fuses colours and prints in ways that are fierce and distinct, and really reflects the vibrant, exciting, young fashionistas emerging across the country. 

The label is individual and exclusive, exactly what we love at Cagecity! From neon furs, net dresses, mesh crops, bold printed tees and bubble bags this labels emphasis is on bringing fun to fashion. What's more it's predominantly uni-sex..Amazing! 

Samantha really shows her raw talent and passion for what she loves..she has worked with musicians Kreayshawn & Azealia Banks and in such a short time has displayed, with Isolated Heroes, that fashion can be fun, but still credible. It really is great to see young creatives emerging from the UK, we like what we see and look forward to what's to come.

ANJA - MEOWWWW!

Anja Konstantinova...the pint sized Australian bombshell that is taking over the fashion world, with bright blonde halo of hair, bee-sting lips and angelic looks, she is a face you can not miss. 

Having shot for brands such as Ksubi, Wildfox Couture, Mezi, Urban Outfitters, The Kooples and our very own StyleStalker she is fast becoming one of Australia's greatest treasures. 

Here are a few of our favourite shots of Anja, including a image of her shot for StyleStalker featuring a fluffy white cat; she is a self confessed cat obsessive and yes the lip tattoo is real....MEOWWWl!

"SPACED OUT" - Emma Mulholland

Being a stockist of some of the coolest Australian brands we always like to keep up to date with Australian fashion and labels. 

EMMA MULHOLLAND is one of Australia's optimistic and promising young designers, who made her debut at Australia's fashion week last year. 

"SPACED OUT" is the latest collection from the 24 year old designer. The collection was inspired by aliens and Ancient Egypt, featuring hollograms, metallics, sequins and shiny brocade. 

It is flamboyant and fun, and definitely not for the faint hearted. We love it! It feels like a blast from the past...circa 90's...colourful, bright and over the top...brilliant! 

Mulholland staples include cropped jackets , printed trousers, high-waist minis, crop tops, caps and backpacks. 

Did you check out Grimes rockin' the "Desperate Much" bomber, one of a kind, custom made just for her! We want one!!! 

Australian model Anja Konstantinova stars in the lookbook. Serious girl crush! She also models for CAGECITY's brand StyleStalker. She is fast becoming one of Australia's most loved models and at a mere height of 5 ft 4 shes breaking the mold of model stereotypes. Go Girl!

GRAFFITI - ART - FASHION : It's INSA

We first clocked eyes on INSA a couple years back in our local area of New Cross, where his trademark "high heel design" covers the front of a shop. 

After asking a couple of graffiti-loving, all-knowing friends...firstly what it was and what it was all about...we got it. They explained that INSA has homed in on symbolising our obsession with sex, consumerism and our lavish, unsatisfying, money grabbing lifestyles, and is in fact making us question..."is that the route to happiness?". 

Since then we kept an eye on INSA, liking his work and the concept behind it. So we were pleased to hear recently about the launch of INSA leggings! Sold out in 6 mins...woah!! Unfortunately we didn't manage to grab a pair, :( but more will be released soon according to his Instagram & Twitter updates...so don't fret, there's still time ;). 

KESH x INSA is INSA's collaboration with up and coming artist and fellow Londoner KESH...who has recently exhibited her first solo show in LA. Which we love...bold, simplicity...its us! She is the perfect candidate to represent INSA fashion...with her voluptuous womanly figure.

We LURVVEE Cats Brothers!

We have fallen in LURRVVEE with new knitwear label CATS BROTHERS. The label is a wooly collaboration between two amazing London based knitwear designers Lindsay McKean and Anna Wilkinson. Their debut collection CRAZY HOMIES was presented at a Day of the Dead themed event in Shoreditch on the 1st of November. 

The collections is highly influenced by 90s street wear and old skool (dead) rappers like B.I.G, Tupac and Lisa Left Eye of TLC. It is fun, playful, bright and colourful. We can def see all our cagecity babes rockin' it! 

Check them out we can see them being the next BIG thing! Well we love them!

Crush on Haim!

Ok so were slightly obsessed with the band HAIM!! Three sisters Este, Alana and Danielle Haim, are true LA babes!! 

The girls grew up playing in their Mum and Dads band (cool parents) But then moved on from that starting to write their own material. The band is heavily influenced by Lindsey Buckingham (Fleetwood Mac) and play a mix of Californian Soft Rock and R&B. 

Not only do they sound amazing their style is on point!! That Laid back LA cool down to a tee.. Fun & playful but cool & sexy all at the same time!

Top dog in Bohemian style.. Lisa Bonet!

This is one of our favourite shots of style savvy Lisa Bonet who played artsy, free spirited Denise Huxtable on the Cosby show. She is one of our top style crushes of the 80's/90's...on and off screen. 

Lisa Bonets style was creative, inspired and carefree. We love how she would wear whatever she liked...a true cagecity lady!!

Optimist Vs Pessimist

Here at Cagecity we love our positive sayings and motivational wise words. We're pretty chilled out free spirits... so to us its all about positivity. 

Recently we came across this blog "Hard truths from softs cats"...and its pretty funny, so thought we'd share (see link).

Its basically taking the piss out of us optimists and hitting us with a dose of...i suppose.... reality.

Throwbacks from the attic..

So...back in '99 I moved house. Things were organised into used & not used! All the stuff we didn't use, but could not bring ourselves to chuck we stored in the loft of our new crib. And thank Gawdd we did!! 13 years on I decided to go on a lil treasure hunt in the loft :) 

And boyy did I have fun rummaging... 

I found all the toys from my childhood..including my Spice Girls ERRMM Everything!! Yes i had it all... I was obsessed, like every other girl who grew up in the 90's! 

I nearly wet myself when I found a big suitcase full of Mums 80's & 90's attire...I've now got a load of new vintage additions to my wardrobe including the cutest crochet crop, a leather rucksack and a black skin tight all in one...Yes Yes Mum :) 

Although the coolest thing I found has to be 'The Beatles' illustrative Lyrics Book. We all had a sing song! Looking through and seeing quotes from each of them, gave me (someone of the younger generation) an insight into the individuals that made up what is now The legendary Beatles! Above all though the pictures were amazing! I've merged a few of them above!

How would you describe your style? 

The most fitting word to describe my wardrobe would be black, nothing beats a cheeky black piece. Love an edgy twist on simple designs. Definitely no frills, no garish patterns but plenty of chunky silver jewellery. 

Who is your Style Icon? 

Alice Dellal, The Olsens. 

What's the wildest job you've had? 

Me and my twin sister (yes she has an identical twin..wow) did a job for Artist Mitch Griffiths where we were strapped together with cling film and blindfolded, whilst simultaneously banging drums with fire sticks. 

What's your fav CAGECITY piece? 

Its gotta be between the 80's black vintage Tassle shirt and the Finders Keepers 'Say what you will shirt'- both amazing.
