Meet Michelle.. CAGECITY's newest addition.

Meet the latest face at the office...Michelle!

Michelle is currently at UCA studying fashion promotion & imaging, specialising in Marketing & PR! Wow!

She loves, Festivals, My Camera and Gummy Bears! Sounds like our kinda girl!

Here's a bit more on our new girl:

How would you describe your style?

I like to experiment and change it up depending on how i feel! Its much more fun that way! :) I'm always changing what i wear (and what colour my hair is), but i still keep it casual, im not big on heels and stuff! I like to keep it to my Dr Martens or trainers!

What drew you to CAGECITY?

I love the idea of working with a company that is growing and being as involved as possible to help it progress! There's a great energy with CAGECITY that drew me in straight away, the clothes, the people and the brand identity!

Who are your style inspirations?

I love looking at street style for inspiration, especially around London as there's so much! I always look at Alexa Chung and Emma Stone, i love their style, its so understated but always works!

Favourite CAGECITY piece?

The MinkPink Crossback Dress, perfect for summer! :)

Thanks Michelle :)

It's nice having this babe in the office.. helping make CAGECITY the best for you guys!

CAGECITY X MDRINK

We love a collaboration.. Yeah we do!!

Our ethos here at CAGECITY, is to connect up with young creatives who may not be established, but have that raw, fresh talent! Nothing excites us more!!

And from this we bring you our new Black & White Lookbook! It's CAGECITY's first studio based Lookbook shoot! (Blame the weather) But with a twist - In true CAGECITY style, you know how we do! Inspired by the Monochrome trend.. we mixed up the Era's with sixties make-up, 80's hair and hot clothes - Of course!! And some funky art!!

We hooked up with the young man that is MDRINK! (Moder Ink)
This guy is serious, his imagination comes to life through a pen creating some amazing pieces of art..all at the sweet age of 20.

We wanted to add illustration to fashion and with a lil brief; MDRINK (completely on our wavelength) creates the art you see in our amazing new Lookbook!

So we caught up with him to give you an insight into the boy behind the ink :)

Hey MDRINK..

Let's start with your name... Why MDRINK?

It started as a graffiti tag.. which was Moder Ink and over time as I matured I changed it to MDR ink.. It had a nice ring to it so i've stuck with that.

When did you really get into art?

I've always been interested, but I started really getting into it at the beggining of secondary school, when I was about 13. My Art lessons gave me the opportunity to find myself and explore what I liked.

What inspires your work?

Graffiti is a big inspiration to my style of work. I love seeing other artists and what they do as this always triggers new ideas and inspiration.

Do you have a favourite piece?

Off the top of my head I couldn't tell you, but as of late i've enjoyed using fine line pens so the work i've created from them has been pretty good.

Where do you want to take your art?

Worldwide!! I would love to see MDR as an empire and I love the idea of collaborating art and fashion. And although a lot of my inspiration is graffiti based I can be versatile and i'm good with a brief *winks*

You definetely are!! We want to see MDR worldwide too!
We love what you've done for us..and we're sure this won't be the last we see of you!! Excited for more CAGECITY X MDRINK collabs!!

We've featured some of MDRINK's work above.. Follow this young man and support the UK's up & coming talent..

As you may have noticed we've also tweaked the site.. So yes CAGECITY is even better!! Keep in the know by signing up for regular updates and of course get social with us!!

Hope you like the freshness girls & guys!!

Music HOTLIST!

I'm one of those people that constantly has my headphones in! Not a day does by without me listening to music and I'm constantly discovering new talent so I thought I'd give you all a little taster of what we've been blasting in the CAGECITY office!

ALUNAGEORGE
You have probably heard of Alunageorge, most probably due to their recent collaborating with Disclosure for 'White Noise' The duo consists of Aluna Francis and George Reid, who met over Myspace (back in the day) when Aluna's band My Toy's Like Me and George and decided to collaborate for a remix. Aluna and George then began making music together and the rest is history!

LULU JAMES
My brother's friend introduced me to Lulu James a couple of weeks ago, a 21 year old singer/songwriter from Newcastle, I'm literally addicted! She has such a powerful soulful voice, she's a diva with an electronic edge! Its hard to pigeon hole her into a genre as her sound is so diverse, she's described as Modern soul with a post dubstep twist! We loovveee!

JACKO HOOPER
A Singer/Songwriter from Brighton, I recently discovered him on YouTube and he's my acoustic artist of the moment! He has a really interesting and distinctive voice which portrays so much emotion. A true example of undiscovered talent!

BONDAX
Predicting big things for Bondax, the duo made up of Adam Kaye and George Townsend produce electronic music with a twist, its got quite a chilled majestic vibe that just puts you in a good mood! Its hard to believe they're only aged 17 and 18! If you love Disclosure check them out, they have a similar kind of sound but put they defiantly put their own stamp on it!

TRIBES
Camden band Tribes are one of my favourite British rock bands at the moment. I watched Tribes at Reading festival last year and they were incredible! They have a very raw, live sound with catchy guitar riffs!

WARPAINT
A girl band with a difference! These 4 girls from LA have such a cool echoed sound, it's very soft with haunting vocals. Strangely enough my mum actually pointed me in the direction of Warpaint (Yes mum)

Jewellery Junkie!! FT Regal Rose.

So every time I have been mentioned on CAGECITY (at moment that's just twice, but who's counting?!) jewellery has been mentioned. My working background is in jewellery, my mum is a bling-a-holic and I dare say that I to have been bitten by the trinket bug.

I begged for my ears to be pierced at age 5, argued the toss over having a bellybar when I was 13 (mum fainted watching me have it done, safe to say it was the most cringe-worthy experience of my life seeing her simper and giggle in the arms of the very burly, tattooed gentleman who came to her rescue) and I recreated the Parent Trap apple/ice piercing with an earring scene a million times with friends, resulting in numerous third and fourth holes along with a trip to the doctors for a Tetanus shot.

Working for an actual jewellers taught me stuff about metal compositions, stones (perks of the job did include trying on pieces that can only be afforded if your name is Jennifer Lopez) and the emotional attachment that people have to their rings, bracelets and necklaces, regardless of the actual worth.

Picking a piece to compliment your outfit, for many people, is about so much more than whether or not it's 'on trend'. Factors to take into consideration are if your skin tone suits silver or gold, if you prefer dainty or statement and of course sentimental value. For example, I am quite fair so feel that gold suits me best, I tend to go for statement as my uniform of jumpers and jeans needs jazzing up quite often and I wear a ruby ring everyday for all occasions as it means a lot to me.

Being a jewellery junkie I am always having a nose at what?s new, what?s different and I was recently pointed in the direction of Regal Rose. Featured in Grazia, and Instyle, twins Rebecca and Louisa started their company in 2008 after regularly making their own jewellery as they couldn't find what they were after online or on the high street. The mix of cool and unique pieces that have been seen on celebs (coveting Fearne Cotton's cocktail ring) and catering for the subtle as well as the bold, makes Regal Rose my new favourite accessories haunt on the web. So much so, that it would kick my dullest, most boring jeans/jumper combo right up the backside. Regal Rose mirrors the eclectic, easy style that attracted me to CAGECITY, so checkout my Regal Rose and CAGECITY style-up.

Something For Windy!

We would like to formally introduce Something For Windy aka Lawrence ;) our fab photograher who has been working with us since the very start of CAGECITY...and boi has he put up with a lot...we can be pretty damn demanding..but we know he secretly loves us! :)

As you can see his personal work has a very different style and feel to CAGECITY, but that's his greatness as he is versatile and adapts his technique to fit our vision...and never disappoints...he gets us!

We have done a quick Q&A with the Lithuanian hottie ;) to give you guys an insight into the man behind the CAGECITY lens...

How did you get into fashion photography?

Curiosity killed a cat. I guess that sums it up! I was curious to try something new. And this is never ending- you might think you know everything, but there will be something new to learn, just around the corner. I really like this about photography. Photography is a huge part of life. Photography is what we capture life with.

What are your inspirations?

My all time favourites (inspirations) would be people that have been doing it for many years now, with well polished style;style that you can recognise without even trying. A few would be Elen Von Unverth, Paolo Roversi, Helmut Newton, Mario Testino. However, there are many unknown and undiscovered photographers that have a great work and style, I get inspired by all sorts of photographs daily.

I'm inspired by simplicity and the human emotion the most. These two are something I try to work really hard on. When both are combined, masterpieces happen.

What is your favourite photo and why?

Having a favourite photo would probably be quite impossible for me. There are simply to many of them and they are all too great, each in their own way... but one of the latest would most likely be V. Beckham on the cover of Elle's magazine- not only does she look great, but the setting is lovely too.

What has been your best shoot?

I'd say the collaboration between me and Natsuki, in Japan; I got to visit a beautiful country, it was an amazing experience.

Thanks Lawrence..although we was expecting to be mentioned in your best shoot..its cool...we still love you!!

Keep your eyes peeled for our next Lookbook shot by Lawrence, it's a goodun..;)

EMMA..Newsest addition to the CAGECITY Fam!

Come and say hi to Emma, a new addition to the CAGECITY family.

Emma is 21 (22 next week...HAPPY BIRTHDAY EMMA!!) and is currently studying Fashion Management and Marketing at UCA. She loves her kindle, skiing and chunky jewellery, the chunkier the better she says!

How would you describe your style?

Very much a jumper, jeans and boots type of girl but I like to add something unexpected like a huge necklace or fiftymillion bracelets! My days are usually pretty hectic and I tend to run around a lot so being comfortable is a must for me. I would say my style is practical with a twist.

What drew you to CAGECITY?

The clothes of course! I'm also a huge admirer of anyone starting up their own business, so after researching the brand and chatting to the founders I caught the CAGECITY bug and really want to help the company grow.

Who are your style inspirations?

My friends, the everyday girl on the street, anyone! I always keep an eye on, women like Marion Cotillard, Natalie Porter and Gemma Arterton who nail that cool/casual look. If I see a style I like enough though, I always give it a try. That's whats great about the ethos at CAGECITY, it's wearing what you like, where you like and not conforming to a stereotype.

Favourite CAGECITY piece?

The MinkPink Nerdlinger tunic jumper (no shock there!)

GIRLS VS BOYS

Androgyny is a big trend for AW13, seen on the catwalks of Nicole Farhi, Trussardi, JW Anderson, Vanessa Bruno and Paul Smith.

Coco Chanel the first to introduce the idea of dressing against your gender, and it is a trend that's evident throughout the decades. David Bowie, Annie Lennox, Grace Jones and Agyness Deyn are just some of the different Androgynous style icons throughout the era's! But Androgyny doesn't have to mean wearing a suit, think beyond the blazers and cigarette pants. Try mixing a shirt and pencil skirt combo with an oversized jacket. For a more casual look, pair boyfriend jeans with a simple vest, plaid shirt and loafers.

However you style it, here's how you can get the look on Cagecity! Keep a look out for our A/W stock, we'll have lots of pieces perfect for you to rock this trend!
