Granny Chic

So in my last blog post I talked about those stylist pensioners giving the fashionista's a run for there money... that got me thinking about something my mum said to me. I'd been shopping and bought this Vintage lace maxi skirt, my mum started laughing about how teenager's are dressing like their grandma's. 

Take the grey hair trend for example, it seemed Tavi Gevinson's quirky do started somewhat of an unusual trend followed by celebrities such as Kelly Osborne and Marina and the Diamonds....and its not just grey hair we seem to have in common with our nan's, pretty florals and chunky knits can be seen almost everywhere you look, ankle socks and chunky shoes, ankle skimming dresses and pastel shades. 

It seems ironic that while the ladies of the Advanced Style blog are daring to wear huge bangles, bold prints and wacky hats, many of us are opting for a more conservative look. 

What do you think of the granny chic look? Would you raid your nan's wardrobe?

Stylestalker - REPLICANT SS13

StyleStalker SS13 campaign - REPLICANT! 

StyleStalker's Spring/Summer campaign Replicant is inspired by the 1982 Ridley Scott film BLADE RUNNER! Starring a very fresh faced Harrison Ford. 

Replicants are genetically engineered organic robots who look just like humans and were designed to carry out dangerous and menial jobs. Banned from returning to earth, those disregarding these limits are hunted down by blade runners. 

While the film portrays a dystopian outlook of the future (the then still distant 2019), Stylestalker?s vision focuses on the utopian aspect: once the ?destruction of planet Earth? has been overcome, there is an imagined perfect life waiting in the future. 

The collection sees a diverse range of styles, shades and silhouettes. The sci-fi merges with the organic, just like they do in replicants. 

We can't wait for the collection!! It will be hitting CAGECITY very soon!

We recently stumbled across this inspiring blog called Advanced style. What sets this blog apart from the others is that it focuses on the stylish over 60's. In a world where fashion is dominated by youth, this blog explores the possibilities of fashion beyond the fresh faced models portraying fashion today. Created by Ari Seth Cohen, he roams the streets of New York searching for the edgy and creative pensioners who don't let age hold them back! 

What's so brilliant about these woman is the passion they have for clothes, the creativity and flair. It goes to show that style is eternal, it's something you're born with and will never loose! We love the idea of these women breaking the stereotype people have of old people; these lot are certainly a long way away from little tweed skirts and frilly blouses!

LFW Street Style..

CAGECITY's first (invited) fashion week...behind the scenes insight! 

Walking around Somerset house during Fashion week is quite something to behold, filled with bloggers, journalists and to be frank... some just plain crazy folk..did anyone else catch the two dressed as a frog and Giraffe!!? LOL 

Thousands of fashionista's teetering in their heels across the cobbles of the courtyard, one things for sure everyone's dressed to impress...and we were we in awe! What would be considered ridiculous to the everyday commuters of London is praised by the fashion community, and rightly so...just how we like it! Bloggers dressed in wacky headpieces and crazy shoes blend in as part of the norm, we definitely felt at home. 

Somerset house is a sure place to showcase your most adventurous outfits and everyone has their most fierce look camera ready. 

Here's our pick of some of the great looks from LFW! Some nicked from our fav blogs because there just that great they had to be included :) and the rest taken by us! There were so many great looks wish we could include them all!

CAGECITY at Eugene Lin..BANG BANG!!

The show started with a BANG! Quite literally the models came out to the sound of Audio Bully's hit 'Bang Bang.' Eugene Lin continued were he left off with SS13 and wowed the audience with his AW13 collection 'Cupid de Locke' inspired by the contrast between violence and love. 

The collection was the perfect sequel to SS13, a darker, slicker more sharp version keeping the basic foundations that define him as a designer. Once again the trench coat had been adapted to create endless possibilities, tailored into dresses, tops and capes. The prints were strong and graphic, this season inspired by shattered glass, in sea greens and burgundy. Gold medallion coins embellished the garments, cuffs and collars adorning the models necks and wrists. What Eugene Lin's collections reflect is that detail is key, he manages to portray an effortlessly chic interpretation of classic pieces. 

Eugene Lin has been featured in Vogue, Elle and Drapers and has worked with Vivienne Westwood and Roksanda Illinic to name a few. Tipped for greatness and its not hard to see why, Eugene Lin is definitely a name soon to be on everyone's lips!

So we know most fashionistas are buzzing over the biannually event that's London Fashion Week, we've loved seeing daily outfit posts, which celebs taking front row, Somerset House Street Style etc etc but let me tell you what has got the CAGECITY team talking....Korean fashion! 

The streets of Seoul has grabbed our attention! They just ooze that laid-back fricking cool style we just love here at CAGECITY...so much so, we are looking to plan a trip out there, street style is our inspiration whatever the city...and we just NEED to see this in the flesh!

LONDON FASHION WEEK!

Friday the 15th is finally upon us, and for all you fashionista's out there, you know that in London that means only one thing. LONDON FASHION WEEK. 

Yes the first of the biannual fashion extravaganza kicks off today, and for the first time ever, YOU can be in the front row. Thanks to the genius minds of YouTube, LFW has teamed up with the online giant to bring the action closer to you. For the first time, 21 shows are being broadcast live right to your laptop! And is this not the best year for it?! 

High street titan River Island has combined forces with that Bajan beauty we all hate to love (Well, we do lol.) Rihanna. High-end (yet still high street) capsule store Whistles is premiering it's first runway show and Mick Jagger's sweetheart L Wren Scott is also showing here in London for the first time. 

In addition to this, cheer on the home grown talent with the new generation of design demi-Gods; Mary Katrantzou, Peter Pilotto, Meadham Kirchoff and JW Anderson all wowed the front-rowers last season, but will their newly coveted names transcend this time around?! (bloody well hope so, LOOOOOVE Peter Pilotto.) 

And of course we have the true heavy weights showcasing this year, natives Burberry, Mulberry and Mrs. Beckham all set to delight with their latest collections, but the show we are holding our breath for the most is Tom Ford. 

Having been previously and notoriously known for his exclusive and private showings, Mr. Ford is showcasing his first full-length womenswear show here in the capital, and WE. CANNOT. WAIT.
