Lichtenstein Exhibition

So a a few weeks ago I was fortunate enough to go to the Lichtenstein exhibition at the Tate Modern. It was a very cold March day and I was extremely grateful to be indoors all snuggly drinking tea in the (quite pricey!) Tate cafe. My friend and I would describe ourselves as interested in art (both having took it at A-level) but in no way as read-up and smug as some people visiting the gallery that day -yes Mr.Across-the-table I am talking about you, no one should know that much about a black dot on a canvas! LOL We took a little wander around the public rooms and giggled at a hard, goopy, grey mess on the floor that resembled a deflated elephant.

I understood about the Pop Art movement of the 1960's/70's. I recognise that back then, it was challenging the rigid views of those who defined "mass culture" and "high culture". Like most people in the Western world I have seen the comic strip images that have become associated with Warhol and Lichtenstein. But what really struck me as I wondered around that exhibition was the thought process and concept development that Lichtenstein must of gone through to reach the spectacular outcomes that are widely recognised today.

Even if you find art dull or pointless I guarantee you will enjoy this exhibition. It is funny, poignant and moving, a perfect hours escape from reality. I don't want to give to much information away about the exhibit as I hope a few readers will go visit, but I will leave you with this “Art washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life.” ― Pablo Picasso

The Exhibition ends 27th May so get booking if you like the sound of it all :)
